Looking for people using Nortel VPN

Shimo3 is just around the corner and one of its features is support for Nortel VPN. To verify this, we need some people with Nortel VPN accounts, who are willing to test the latest beta.
You can get access to the Shimo3 beta at http://dev.chungwasoft.com/Shimo/ . Just register for a beta account on that site and download the latest beta version. If you encounter any problems or if you have any feature requests, just send me an email or create a ticket on the beta website.

UPDATE: The Shimo3 beta period ended some days ago. So please download version 3.0.

      Hello
      I do have a question to Shimo 3 as a Contivity replacement…
Will Shimo 3 be able to use a Gemalto Cryptoflex SmartCard ??

    • Kaneda 23:29 on February 19, 2012 Permalink | Reply

      Hi,
Just tried it and works just fine (with SecureID token). Only thing, I had to uncheck the “Use Kernel IPSEC Implementation” in the config.

      Thanks,
      Kan

      Hello Fabian

First of all – great application – very simple and clean UI. I did download the beta since we here @ travelocity.com, we use Nortel for VPN Connectivity. However I was not successful in connecting to the VPN server. I used a hard token for connection. For authentication we use Group Security Authentication with a Group ID and Password. The Group Authentication Option is a “Response Only Token” which uses a Two-Factor Authentication Token Card.

I set the preferences in the application with the Authentication set to Group Password. Am I missing something?

      Thanks
      Binoy Thomas

      Hi Fabian,

Couldn’t get it to work either :-(. Authentication is set to “Group Password”. In log file I get the error “ERROR: can’t get tunnel HW address: Function not implemented”. Does that mean anything to you?
      BTW, I’m using Beta 9.

      Good luck with the release!

Please check what network interface is set in your profile. If it is “tap”, try “tun”. Also try “kernel ipsec”.

    Shimo3 Beta Period Expired? NO!

Shimo3 just reaches its next beta phase and therefore you have to download the new version explicitly from here: http://dev.chungwasoft.com/Shimo/

UPDATE: The Shimo3 beta period ended some days ago. So please download version 3.0.

I am shimo 2.3.3 user. How can I get to access the 3 beta? Currently the shim 2.3.3 does not work in Lion.

Hello, I bought Shimo on 1/23/2011 and have only been able to use it for a week. It interferes with BTMM, which none of the other VPN software packages i use do. I also bought it because i wanted to support Shimo after using V1 that I loved. But you advertised it as working with Cisco AnyConnect, and I’ve not been able to get it to work at all. and now there is a Version3 and I’ve getting screwed over on another risky iffy application if i buy it again.

      Fabian,
I downloaded the current Shimo version and it will not run w/o obtaining a license! I need to try your product to see if it works for the VPN server my company uses. Please advise . . .

      • Fabian 19:07 on January 13, 2012 Permalink | Reply

Shimo asks you to purchase a license, but you can also use it without a license. Just ignore the nag screen in the meantime :-)

    Spring Status Update

    It’s spring!
I just want to let you all know that the development of Shimo is currently a little sluggish, because I started my new job as a PhD candidate at RWTH Aachen University. Furthermore I added some cool new features to Shimo3, which do not work well yet. For example, Shimo3 will use Snow Leopard’s integrated support for CiscoVPN connections. Thus Shimo will work without any additional software on MacOS X 10.6!
More news: For all the hamachi fans among you, I am planning to release a special application for VPN services like hamachi. This app will include support for contact lists, file sharing etc.
GeoTagr will also receive an update very soon, which incorporates the new services in iPhone OS 4.0! For the iPhone I am going to release an enhanced version of Kamusi (probably with audio support) and there is another nice iPhone app in the pipeline :-)
As you can easily see, I have a lot of plans for this year and I am sure that you will like all of them!

Regarding the Shimo3 beta test: It has not started yet and currently all the people, who applied for it, will be in!

Hi, some Cisco PIXs currently work with Shimo, but not with native Snow Leopard VPN client. Please don’t leave that functionality out of next version!

      • Michelle Gill 15:54 on July 5, 2010 Permalink | Reply

Thank you so much for the update and congrats on the PhD program. I can tell you from my days as a PhD student that you will be very busy. :)

Exciting to hear about the new features. Not sure if you saw, but there is a new beta of Hamachi for Mac in the beta downloads section of the LogMeIn website. I hope you plan to include (or, rather update existing) support for Hamachi.

        Cheers!

    Shimo3 Private Beta: Phase1

As the development of Shimo’s third incarnation is progressing rapidly, we come to a state where we need more people testing the current version. With Shimo3 there are a lot of new features, which need to work as smoothly as possible and therefore we would like to ask you to join our private beta phase1.
To be part of this test period, please send in a short description of yourself. It would be nice to add the following information to your application:

    - Version of MacOS X
    - VPN protocol primarily used
    - Level of networking skills/knowledge
    - Previous beta tests

The more information we have about you, the better we can find the perfect team for our beta test.

Hello. I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.2. I currently use the Cisco VPN Client v4.9.01.0180 to connect to three different sites via IPsec. I am a senior Unix system admin and support multiple clients remotely via VPN. I am very experienced with TCP/IP networking. I’ve only been a beta tester once in the past… with VMware’s Fusion product. I would be very interested in helping you test Shimo3. I have used Shimo v1.0.7 previously.

I’d love to help beta test. I assume you want information here, since you didn’t provide any other contact information in your post.

      1. 10.6.2, on an 8-core Mac Pro, and on a MacBook Pro.
      2. Cisco IPSEC (via Snow Leopard client, Shimo 2, VPN Tracker). Also use IPSEC to OpenBSD.
      3. Lots of networking experience / knowledge. I’ve written protocol stacks. I’ve administered lots.
      4. I’ve never betaed for you before.

I’d love to help test. I’ve been running 2.x for a while, and while the OpenVPN and PPTP VPNs work great, I’ve never been able to move from IPSecuritas to Shimo for my IPsec VPNs. I am a systems & network admin looking after many Juniper IPsec, OpenVPN and PPTP devices.

      1. 10.6.2 on a MacBook
      2. Juniper based IPsec
      3. Not CCIE level, but pretty experienced
      4. I participated in the early Dropbox beta test, and one of the first linux client alpha testers

      Cheers z0mbix

      2. Cisco IPSEC
      3. No experience with Mac software development, but I used to compile my own Linux kernels
      4. Work with command line (scripts, python, software compilation) for my research (I am a biophysicist)
      5. Have been a beta tester for numerous Mac programs

      Hi Fabian,
I would appreciate to participate in your Shimo3 Private Beta test. I currently run 10.6.2 64 bits on a Macbook Pro penryn. I normally use Cisco vpn but has i does not run in 64 bits, I fall back onto the client integrated in SL. Therefore, Shimo cannot handle that one for me :-o(
I manage more than 200 machines on my working site and the whole network and backup structure even my official job is researcher in biotech. I think I have quite a good level of knowledge in network and I am in tight contact with very high level engineers: they manage the whole Strasburg University network…
As previous beta tests, I have been involved in Encore (music sheet software) and a biotech software. I have done also some software French translation as iSoftphone, MDRP, etc…
      Best regards.
